Job Description
A Marine Superintendent acts as the vital link between shore-based management and ships, responsible for maintaining fleet safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The role will be a co-ordinator role between the DCC management team and the third party barge operator to ensure compliance with all authority and safety requirements and ensure smooth day to day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Co-ordination with the barge contractor on all HSE and regulation compliance.
Safety: Execute inductions and tool box walk with the marine team for the barges etc.
Technical Support: Conducting vessel inspections, audits, and damage surveys, and solving engineering challenges.
Liaison & Reporting: Acting as the primary DCC contact between ship masters, crew, technical managers, and classification societies.
Budget Management: Monitoring and managing vessel operating costs and reporting the same, including spare parts procurement and logistical planning.
Crew Management: Ensuring the operator does regular crew training, mentoring, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Schedule deliveries: Schedule the deliveries of the barges and the priorities of loading of the barges.
Weather reviews: Reviewing whether and co-ordinating when the barge cannot sail and co-ordinating the same.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Typically requires a Master Mariner Certificate (Class 1 or 2) or a degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
Experience: Previous sailing experience as a Chief Engineer or Master is highly preferred, with shore-based experience as a technical superintendent.
Skills: Strong technical knowledge of ship systems, ISM auditing skills, strong leadership, crisis management, budget management, and proficiency in maritime software.
Flexibility: Ability to travel frequently to attend vessels in various locations.
